Proofreading and Copyediting Services Guide:

We provide all kinds of proofreading and copyediting services (especially for science, technical, medical manuscripts). We also provide developmental editing services to biology, agriculture, and biotechnology --based authors.

Proofreading: this involves reviewing and editing text for spelling mistakes, typo errors – mainly introduced by mistyping, correcting mistakes in grammar and punctuation, if any. Note: proofreading jobs will be done only on previously edited or typeset manuscript.

We offer all levels of copyediting -- light, medium and heavy.

Level 1 (Light): minor copyediting, correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation and spacing errors. Rectifying inconsistencies in the usage.

Level 2 (Medium): correcting syntax, word usage, capitalization, italicizations (scientific names, genes, mutants), tenses, consistency of text and style in the manuscript, US/UK consistency.

Level 3 (Heavy): In addition to performing the entire task for light and medium copyediting it involves improving the flow of text by rewriting. Reference styling (both in text as well as in the list). Rearranging and rephrasing the sentences, level of heads, or paragraphs for better readability, comprehension and flow, maintaining style, originality and US/UK consistency.

Note: In the end of every proofreading and copyediting job, the copy editor will prepare a query sheet for the author regarding conflicting/erroneous statements, missing references, tables and figures, list, if required. And authors will be updated at every step of editing.

Style sheet preparation: We also prepare style sheets as per any journal/publisher specifications.

Developmental editing (or content editing): In this process, we literally help the authors prepare their manuscript. We aid in organizing, conceptualizing, preparing, and reviewing the content of the work (in order to prepare a structured manuscript). Some of the tasks that are performed in this process are:

·        Preparing communication documents to the editors.

·        Heavy rewriting of the sentences and paragraphs to improve readability.

·        Rearrangement (which includes addition and deletion of certain portions) of paragraphs and heading levels to enhance the flow of the text.

Developmental editors are actively involved in the content preparation and verification of the manuscript at each step. They also help in improvising and altering the portions of the manuscript as per the suggestions of reviewers. In addition, they help authors in answering the reviewer queries.

After the developmental editing of the manuscript is done, authors are recommended to get the manuscript copyedited which is a separate step) before manuscript submission.

Note: developmental editing does not include the tasks that are performed in copyediting such as consistency or rectification of spellings and term usage, reference styling. Developmental editor may suggest the level of copyediting the text might require. Developmental editor may also provide the copyeditor with the journal style sheet which will fasten the copyediting process.
